Alanson High School Weekly Vocabulary
As part of our School Improvement Plan, the high school is focusing on academic vocabulary through all subject areas. Each week, teachers share a word from their curriculum to a weekly list that students are required to learn. This activity is a cross-curricular enhancement which will benefit all students at the secondary level.
This year for English 9, I have the honor of team teaching with our Special Education Teacher. The process in which we are implementing this in our classroom is demonstrated below.

Secondary Vocabulary Implementation
At the beginning of each week, our students are given a list of five vocabulary words from across our high school curriculum that they are required to copy down in their Vocabulary Tracker and study. Those words are also displayed in my classroom during the week so students can use that visual reminder as a learning target.
We had each student create a Vocabulary Tracker and allowed them to personalize the outside cover.
On the left side of the Tracker, students write down their weekly word list. The right side of the tracker is for students to track their progress in understanding the vocabulary. This allows students to set their own goals by monitoring their own progress and understanding. Students are tested every other week on the previous two weeks worth of words. We then review their answers and provide them with their score in the appropriate boxes.
